I have been interested in wine for as long as I can remember. About 20 years ago I visited a small town called Martel in the South West of France. A seed was sown when I sat with my wife and had a glass of local Bergerac wine with a salad of duck confit. Food and wine, simple in presentation, but of the highest quality. I decided there and then that I wanted to open a wine shop and wine bar that offered the same sort of quality in Ireland.
Over the next few years I began to holiday in the Basque region (the 64 region of France) where each meal and glass of wine inspired. 10 years after my trip to Martel I finally opened 64 Wine in Glasthule, Co Dublin.
64 Wine developed over the next ten years. Our food offering improved and our wine range expanded. I continue to source our wines from small artisan producers, many of whom take a biodynamic, organic or natural approach to wine making. I make regular visits to our producers and I never cease to be amazed by their commitment to making dynamic, high quality wines.
Our team was tiny to begin with, but has grown to over 20. In 2017, we decided to seek a wider audience for our wines on-line, so I would like to welcome you to our site. I hope you enjoy drinking some of the wines as much as I have enjoyed selecting them.
