Bruno Giacosa is a legendary and now sadly deceased producer of Barolo’s, Barbaresco’s and Dolcetto’s. He was a man of few words who preferred to let his wines do the talking, however in one rare interview he said this: “Winemaking involves a great many small decisions, each affecting the next. One can only hope to get them right, to capture what there was in the grapes to begin with.” He dedicated his life to making wines of the very highest quality and his legacy lives on in the amazing wines he produced.
Nicolas Belfrage MW in his unsurpassed Barolo to Valpolicella published in 1999, summarises Giacosa thus: ‘the common factor between top producers of Barolo and Barbaresco, given that we speak of individuals of highly developed and utterly distinctive personality, is consistency. Their bottles are never mediocre, sometimes sensational. In my experience, no one’s Nebbiolos have been more consistently wonderful over such a long period than those of this morose, introspective genius of Neive’.
